Design Rationale & Inspiration

When I thought about making a music magazine, I knew I wanted to make it really bold and in-your-face. I always wanted to read a music magazine that focused on artists I enjoy listening to. I noticed that a lot of musical artists I enjoy were also in the musical festival scene- so I decided to merge the two together and talk about my favorite artists while also discussing the music festival scene.
I was trying to figure out a color palette for this magazine, I decided to pull color swatches from album covers of artists I was thinking of featuring in this magazine; The 1975’s album, “A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships,” had these small, colored squares scattered throughout the cover. It was on a white background with black text. I pulled swatches from a few of the squares and ended up choosing a red, a yellow, and a blue along with black and white. I liked how these colors complimented another and how they looked paired with black and white. Later, I added the orange and peach shade from the gradient I have featured throughout the magazine to give myself more color options.
All line illustrations, and other design elements were made by me. Story content, titles, and photos were pulled from Rolling Stone, Billboard, and Mojo magazine.
